Is AI the same as ChatGPT? (No — here’s the simple truth)
Most people use “AI” and “ChatGPT” as if they’re the same word. They’re not. Let me show you with a tree.
Imagine AI is a huge tree. That tree has many branches — one branch understands language, one sees and creates images, one drives cars, one decides which video you see next. The branch that reads and writes language like a human is called an LLM (Large Language Model). And ChatGPT? It’s just one fruit hanging on that one branch — a single product, made by a single company (OpenAI).
So: AI is the whole tree. An LLM is one branch. ChatGPT is one fruit on that branch. Calling all of AI “ChatGPT” is like calling every fruit in the world a “mango.”
So what exactly is an LLM?
LLM stands for Large Language Model. In plain words: it’s an AI that has read a huge amount of text — books, websites, articles — and from all that reading, it learned to understand and write language almost like a person. So when you type a question and it replies in full sentences, that’s an LLM doing its job.
ChatGPT is an LLM. But here’s the important part — it is not the only one. Many big companies have built their own LLMs, each with its own name.
